I was tired of not being able to log into a game or being dumped to desktop so I uninstalled BFBC2. I've tried to re-install 2 days now and I continue to get the same error.

"The cabinet file 'c3.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used.
This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package."

I've done just about everything - uninstalled my DVD drive, re-seated my RAM, Digital download (dig download give same error), copy DVD to desktop.

Ran mem check on my PC and it said I had an issue. Tried to repair my Vista OS but Microsuck disk didn't help. Next step is to re-install the OS. Then toss this POS out the window. EA offers no suggestions and provides zero support. If I re-install the OS and it doesn't work EA can kiss my @22.

Thought I would at least ask before I jump into a full day of re-installing - Anyone have installation issues?

Don't know if you tried this, but this is what I found on a forum:

Here is a fix for a corrupt cabinet file!! I work couple of hours to find out solve for this error. For me the error was from c3.cab-file.

SOLUTION (needs windows 7 or Vista)

1. Open corrupted cabinet file on windows explorer (not winrar etc.) Windows 7 have its own software. for cabinet files.
2. Select all the files in cabinet-> right mouse->extract...extract some where on your hard disk, no errors
3. Download some software which can make cabinet files. I used ZipGenius 6 (freeware)
4. Select all extracted files from original cab-file and make new cab-file with ZipGenius.
5. Copy all (you dont have to copy corrupted cab-file) data from your BFBD2 DVD or iso-file to your computer.
6. Copy the cab-file maked with ZipGenius to its original place to BD2 install directory(directory where you copy files from DVD) remember to rename it same name as corrupted cab-file was.
7. Install game from setup.exe!!
8. Thats it!! Works for me!

Try using a different DVD drive. Plug it in on the side and let the machine find as a new drive.......I have had this same issue before with other things and this seemed to work 4 of the 5 times.

Thanks Roc - I've read all these ideas on the web and tried most.
Thanks War - I still have a memory leak somewhere so I'm not sure if a reformat will work?
Thanks Krakon - Sandwich was good but I have to put the disk in right side down because my drive won't read it if I put the disk right side up.

I'll be back - I'm not in a huge hurry now.

War was working with me last night to try and resolve this issue. Shortly after we logged off TS my power pack died. That may have been the reason behind blue screens and memory issues.

Hey Stretchy - ty for the post but that didn't sound encouraging. I replaced my power supply and of course I still have the memory issue. I need to reinstall my OS because I have this problem even out of the game now. Not sure what to think. I'm backing up files now and hope to have a fresh install over the weekend. I also need to have my RAM tested.

I'm looking at new games which are limited at this time.

Hop on TS every once in awhile and let us know you are alive.

Sorry to hear about your issues, hopefully you can get back gaming with us shortly.

Stretchy - have you contacted Steam Tech Support? If it's only your Steam games giving you problems they may have some ideas.

Buzz look for a program called memtest. Very small program its free and like the name says it checks you memory.
If it comes up with any error your memory is defect. Try switching you memory around and if you have several sticks go down to one and try it in different positions on your motherboard.

Finished a fresh reinstall. It's clean but still having issues loading the c2.cab file. But I might have found a fix.

Somebody posted: I'm running Windows xp pro sp2 and Ive fixed the c2.CAB error by changing my cd rom drom transfer mode from "dma" to "pio"

Go to:

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI controller ->

Then double click on the IDE Channel that your DVD rom is on, eg: Primary IDE Channel, or Secondary IDE Channel.

on "Device 0" click on the dropdown box by "Transfer Mode" and change it from "DMA if available" to "PIO Only".

Click Ok. (System may require restart)

A second person posted: I managed to also get this to work on Vista - at least I think it was this that did it - I basically followed these instructions but unticked the 'enable DMA' in advanced settings.

I'll add my own tid bit - dig around in the different "Device 0" available. You'll see the name of your DVD rom. Go into Advanced and uncheck the 'enable DMA'.

I didn't restart. Began the install and it worked.

Stretch - whats the first error you encounter? Will the computer install it? Do a punkbuster update manually from evenbalance.

Game is installed ....... Game plays for 5-15 mins and then crashes... no time to alt-tab out. screen goes blank and monitors power button starts to blink on and off.... hit reset.... restart game after windows loads..... game crashes an few mins in game.... it just freezes and only thing i can do is hit reset... Happens with Supreme commander 2 aswell.... Both vid cards are watercooled.... temperature doesn't hit above 42 deg Celsius. And sometimes when I'm in the game the video with have thick black lines vertically or horizontally... no way to recover except to exit game and back to windows.... I swear this game doesn't like my video cards or 64bit OS. I bought Supreme commander with a cd but has to run thru Steam.... I asked a local computer company and they've had multiple people complain about ATI Cards and Steam.

Did you have any issues during re-install? I can't load updates but the game is installed now. Install time is a couple hours per.

Unfortunately my BFBC2 is running through steam...... So it updates itself. As for other games without Steam... I've just bought Starcraft 2 and I'm installing now... So we'll see if it works or not.
